Too Much Fun in the Sun? This Soothing Spray Can Help

My son is a pitcher. I spend a lot of time under the sun on baseball fields and so do many other friends and baseball parents. At a recent event we all wore sunscreen and tucked under umbrellas to shade ourselves, but after a full day in the sun we were still feeling and seeing its effects. We all try to avoid getting burned but sometimes it happens. A leg, foot, or shoulders get more sun than you realized and ouch!

I've posted this recipe before but after seeing a few sunburns recently I feel like its worth mentioning again.

For sunburn I make a soothing aloe spray. It's quick to make and in my experience cools the skin and often you don't end up peeling like crazy. It can be made with aloe, distilled water or hydrosol, and I like to add a few drops of essential oils. This spray is also great for dry skin.

Since it doesn't have a preservative make it in small batches and use up in a few weeks.

What you'll need:

2 oz Glass spray bottle

1 oz of aloe vera juice (organic is best)

1 oz Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) or lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) hydrosol

2 drops lavender (Lavendula angustafolia) essential oil

2 drops peppermint (Mentha x piperita) essential oil

1 drop Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) essential oil

20 drops Solubol dispersant (optional)

If using solubul add it to the glass jar followed by essential oils. Mix gently. Add aloe and hydrosol. If making for young children you can omit the essential oils. Hydrosol and aloe alone work great.

Spray onto areas of concern as needed. You can store in the refrigerator for even more cooling spray. Use within a few weeks. Recipe can be doubled if desired.

If you don't have the ingredients to make this spray you can always give me a call or text and I'll make it up for you.

While too much sun is not good we do need it to make vitamin and help our biological clocks. Check out this post on the link between morning sun and sleep. Stay safe!

Aromatic blessings,

Tricia
