Keep Your Peace: Cultivating Calm with Aromatherapy
Life is full of challenges and finding peace amidst the chaos can feel daunting, but aromatherapy can help. I’ve recently felt a real need to cultivate mindfulness and protect my peace from anxiety promoting news, social media, and events happening around the world and within our communities. I feel that with a calm, grateful state of mind, I can give the best of myself. I can better create, grow, and express gratitude from a place of peace, love, and kindness.
I use aromatherapy to support wellness in many ways and recently created what I call "Keep Your Peace" blend (see recipe below) to help ease feelings of stress and unrest and even support sleep. It combines the soothing, grounding, and uplifting properties of bergamot, frankincense, ravintsara, and Roman chamomile to inspire tranquility and help you stay rooted in peace.
Why These Oils?
Roman Chamomile: This floral powerhouse has been shown to enhance relaxation when used in aromatherapy massage, improving physical and emotional well-being. The aroma helps enhance the relaxing benefits of massage. (Wilkinson S. et al., 1999)
Bergamot: With its fresh, citrusy aroma, bergamot is known for its ability to ease feelings of anxiety and uplift the mood. (Purchon N., Cantele L., 2014)
Frankincense: A grounding, resinous oil that supports a sense of inner calm.
Ravintsara: Helps clear the mind and offers a gentle, refreshing aroma that supports focus.
How to Use It
Diffuse: Add to your diffuser for a calm, peaceful atmosphere.
Aroma Inhaler: Double the blend drop ratio and add to an inhaler to take your peace on the go.
Topical Use Notes: Bergmot essential oil is phototoxic and can increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun. This blend can be diluted to 1 -2% for topical use but it is advised you avoid exposing skin to sunlight for 24 hours. Alternatively one can use FCF (furocourmarin free) bergamot essential oil in which phototoxic elements are removed. Check out this blog post to learn more about bergamot essential oil.
Why It Works
This blend combines the soothing properties of florals, the grounding effects of resins, and the uplifting brightness of citrus, making it ideal for promoting calm and clarity in your daily life.
Whether you're winding down after a long day or setting the tone for a productive morning, you can use aroma to help remind you to breathe deeply, stay grounded, and keep your peace.
